As a Quebec resident, you file both a federal return with CRA and a provincial return with Revenu Québec — twice the paperwork, but also twice the opportunities for deductions and credits.
Your Two Returns
Federal T1 (CRA): Filed via NETFILE by April 30. Quebec TP-1 (Revenu Québec): Filed via NetFile Québec, same deadlines. Quebec has its own brackets, credits, and deductions — they don't automatically transfer from federal.
Key Quebec-Specific Credits
- Solidarity Tax Credit: Up to $2,160/year for eligible households
- Work Premium: Up to $2,897 for qualifying working families
- Home Support for Seniors: 36% credit on eligible expenses for those 70+
Tax Planning Calendar
- Jan: Gather T4, T5, RL-1, RL-31 slips; begin RRSP contributions
- Feb 28: RRSP deadline (60 days after Dec 31)
- Apr 30: Filing deadline; balance owing due
- Jun 15: Extended deadline for self-employed (but interest starts May 1)
- Dec 31: Final date for charitable donations, FHSA contributions
💡 Tip: If you rent, ensure your landlord provides your RL-31 by February 28. Without it you may lose the Housing Component of the Solidarity Tax Credit worth hundreds per year.
